Commonly asked Questions or FAQ’s

Q         How do birds find my feeder?

A          Using Sight and Sound. Sight is the most important way birds find feeders. If they see and recognize the food inside the feeder, they will eat there. Because there are often feeders in neighboring yards, birds often recognize the feeder itself as a food source.

Q         How long does it take for birds to find a bird feeder?

A          The Rule of 2s is that it might take 2 seconds, 2 minutes, 2 hours, 2 days, 2 weeks, even 2 months for birds to use a new feeder! It depends on many things such as feeder placement, the type of feeder, the quality of the food, bird population in your area, weather, predators, and more.

Q         When should I start and stop feeding birds?

A          Hummingbirds get their food from a variety of sources throughout a day, so what people provide is a convenient and easy source of food, but not necessary to help the species of birds that come to feeders. So, starting or stopping your feeding at any particular time of year won't have much of an impact on those birds. Depending on where you live continuing to feed Hummingbirds can prevent them from leaving soon enough when cold sets in.  In warmer climates you provide food for traveling birds as they migrate.

Q         Are Yankee Glass Art Hummingbird Feeders easy to use?

A          Our Hummingbird Feeders are rugged all Glass with Zinc Hooks, the Plastic Best-1 Feeder bottom twists off and you fill with your Nectar then reinstall by twisting the bottom back on and flip over. Our Hummingbird Feeders are easy to clean with Lukewarm water and mild Clorox mixture to remove black mold.  Unlike All Plastic Feeders these feeders Will Not deteriorate or Harbor Disease.  Our Yankee Glass Art Hummingbird Feeders will not become brittle in the extreme cold or heat as our feeders are designed stand the test of time.

Q         What type of Nectar should I use?

A          An easy concoction of 1 Part Pure Sugar and 4 Parts Water!  Bring water to rolling boil, add sugar and remove from heat, let cool.  No food Coloring needed!  Red Dye is not good for our birds and will not have any effect on attracting them.

Q         Will Bees get into the Nectar?

A          The Best-1 Feeder Base has small port openings large enough for the Hummingbird nozzle to enter but small enough to prevent Bees from getting to the Nectar.  Bees will not hang around these feeders!

Q         Will Ants get to my feeder if I use the supplied Ant Trap?

A          Nothing is 100% Full proof with Wildlife!  Although the supplied Ant Trap will stop 95% of the intruders and it does work!  Unless Ants are good swimmers, they won’t make it across the small pond.
